Spellet combines strategy and action to create a challenging word puzzler.
Spellet is a word puzzle game filled with strategy and action. Armed with four cannons and one pellet, players must fire in the right direction to pop the balloons in the proper order to spell the target word. It looks simple on the surface, but each of the 100 levels becomes more complex as gamers progress.At the start of every game, the target word is displayed at the bottom of the iPhone screen. Balloons with letters are randomly positioned on the center of the screen. The goal is to tap one of four cannons to fire a pellet. The pellet follows whatever is on its path. A popped balloon displays the letter in the word window at the top of the screen. Players must hit the balloons in the proper order to spell the target word. The level is complete once the word windows matches the target word.
The challenge occurs when rubber bands and bells are introduced. The pellet bounces off the rubber band at right angles and can only be placed on the nodes horizontally or vertically. Red rubber bands have fixed locations, tan ones require gamers to place them on nodes, and dotted rubber bands break and disappear. There are also bells that add the letter it contains to the word window, but it never disappears from the screen. For those who need help on the more difficult levels, Spellet provides players with two types: a gun or a band hint.While the game has a lot of bells and whistles (or in this case rubber bands), it lacks in the multiplayer and scoring department. The main concern that I have with Spellet is that it doesn’t penalize or award gamers. The objective is to make it to the next level, but there are no points, stars or ranking systems. Furthermore, gamers can use the hints button every game without a penalty. These factors make Spellet a great solo game, but players who enjoy competing against their own scores or with friends may be disappointed.
Overall, Spellet is a lot of fun for word puzzle junkies. The wide variety of game elements and surprising twists help give it a high replay value. With 100 challenging levels divided into unique stages, Spellet is sure to keep players occupied for many hours. Spell your way to victory in this addicting puzzler.
